AgLocal: Riding on the reddit Open Internet 2012 Bus Tour

reddit bus Open Internet 2012 #Internet2012

We were recently contacted by the GM of reddit (top 50 most visited internet site), Erik Martin, about a bus tour. This isn’t any bus tour, this is a tour to promote why we need an open and free internet. There were two recent bills that did not pass in January 2012, which were (SOPA, stop online piracy act and PIPA protect IP act). This bills would have caused detrimental problems to many internet start up companies and already established online companies. One of the key leaders in pulling resources, people and the online community to stop these bills from being passed was co-founder of reddit Alexis Ohanian. These events triggered the conception of the 2012 bus tour by  Alexis Ohanian and GM of reddit Erik Martin. These two realized that there needed to be more awareness brought to our politicians and people about how dangerous these types of  bills can be to the technology sector.

The tour, appropriately named, Open Internet 2012 Bus Tour will be traveling to nine cities over the course of 9 days starting October 3rd in Denver,CO until October 11th, when the bus will stop in Lexington, KY. On the bus will be top journalists from around the country and a few entrepreneurs of new innovative start up companies. The journalists include ADweek Magazine, Waywire, BuzzFeed, The Daily Dot, The Verge, Forbes and More. The full time entrepreneurs include both AgLocal and also newly founded The Internet Association. The bus will be meeting with local start ups, host a few pannel discussions and talk with anyone that wants to voice their opinion about the importance of open internet in each of the cities the bus stops in.

We realize how important it is for everyone to stay up to date on their local politics, especially around the internet. We are ecstatic that reddit asked us to join them on the tour. We will be stopping in Kansas City to visit one of the farms using our platform, make sure to stay tuned on our blog for tour updates, photos and information on how you can help.

The tour details can be found at internet2012bustour.com.

You can help the tour reach as many people as possible by using the hastag #internet2012 in any tweets to @reddit @AgLocal.
